Help Guides Along The Way

Help guides are supplied at each step in the process of making a digital photo album. Just click on the help icon whenever in doubt.

We also supply ‘tool tips’ which are guides that are triggered based on where your mouse cursor is.

Inviting others to contribute their photos

The beauty of Fotocodex is that it makes it really easy for you to invite your friends, family, wedding guests, etc to upload their best digital photos directly into your album’s gallery!

The invitation manager is available in your projects listings. You’ll see an “Invite” link in the right hand column of each of your projects. Via the invitation manager you can see at a glance who has been sent invitations as well as who has accepted or rejected them. Fotocodex will automatically send out reminders every 10 days to those who have yet to respond one way or another.

To send out invitation all you need are:

  • The text you’d like to include at the beginning of your invitation. Remember that the album’s name and description will be included automatically in the invitation.
  • The list of email address of the guests you’d like to invite. Email addresses should be separated by a comma. For example:
    • john@doe.com,janeQ@public.com

Organising Things (this is optional)

We think of this part as sorting through the photos in the shoebox only in this case you are providing some organisation structure to a collection of digital photos.

This step is optional.

Fotocodex automatically sorts the digital photos in your album’s gallery by their capture date, from oldest to newest. For most people this is enough.

However if you’d like more organisation all you need to do is to create ‘categories’. A category is just a name for your figurative stack of photos, e.g. ‘reception’, ‘ceremony’, etc. Creating categories before you invite your guests to contribute will make things easier for everyone. When you upload photos you can choose to which category they should belong. When you are creating your album’s pages you can filter the photos available by their category.

Use the album’s ‘change’ link to add or update categories to your album’s gallery.

Again this step is optional. We recommend it if you plan on inviting many people to upload their photos.

Creating your album

In the page editor you will see a list of page templates on the left hand side, your list of photos on the right hand side as well as the pages you’ve created so far.

To start things off click on a page template. This will load the design into the editor. Once it has been loaded you just then drag and drop the photos you wish on to the frames within the page.

Once an image is within a frame on a page you may choose to:

  • change its cropping
    • click the ‘move’ button and then just move the photo using your mouse
  • change the zoom
    • click on the ‘zoom’ button and then just click repeatedly inside the frame where you’d like to zoom the photo
  • rotate the photo within the frame
    • click on the ‘rotate’ button then just click inside the frame with the photo to rotate. Repeated clicks result in more 90 degree rotations.
  • remove a photo you’ve placed into a frame
    • click on the ‘remove’ button then click on the photo you’d like removed. This removes the photo from the frame. The photo is not removed from your gallery!
  • edit the photo
    • this option allows you to:
      • change the photo to black and white or sepia
      • adjust the brightness
      • adjust the contrast
      • adjust the saturation

Once you have made all the changes you wish remember to “save” those changes. Once saved you will be returned back to the page editor where you will see your changed photo.
